dovercourt park at a glance

Dovercourt Park (Toronto), also referred to as Dovercourt Village or Bloorcourt Village, is a small community that boasts a concentration of small shops offering a variety of items, from taste-tempting baked goods to fashionable apparel. A focal point is Dovercourt Park, which houses the Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club, is open year round and offers a myriad of social and recreational programs for neighbourhood children. The area along Bloor Street East consists almost exclusively of mixed-use residential and commercial buildings. These structures are typically two or three stories tall, with retail commercial on the main floor, and offices or rental housing on the remainder. These converted residential structures are the oldest in the district and are often in poor repair. Residential areas flank the north and south of Bloor Street with many of the single-family dwellings having been converted to eight separate units, though illegally. Along side streets are many low and medium-rise apartments. The northern part of the Village hosts a large amount of former industrial space that has been converted to loft condominiums. Some single-family town houses and low-income rental space has also been created.
