Below are a number of tips to help you navigate your way through searching for rentals, roommates and reviews:
Q: How do I search?
A: On the homepage, you can search for rental availabilities, roomates or reviews depending on which bubble you click underneath the search bar. You can also click on the tabs at the top of the screen to look more specifically into certain categories.
Q: Once I’ve entered in a search location, can I adjust it?
A: Yes. Not only can you enter in a different location in the box above the map, but you can also adjust the map view of your location by zooming in and out using the +/- buttons and moving the up/down arrows on the top left corner of the map.
Q: What do the pictures on the map signify?
A: When viewing your search results on the map, we thought it would be useful for you to better understand the proximity of the apartment to transportation and food. As such, we’ve put the locations of TTC subway stations, GO train stations and grocery stores on the map. Their corresponding pictures are as follows:
Q: Can I refine my search criteria once I’ve entered in a location?
A: The results of your initial search will show ALL the listings that fall into your search location, so you’ll likely need to narrow down your search. Once you've entered in a location, on the left side of the screen will be the "Advanced Search" where you'll be able to refine your search by choosing the criteria that fits your rental requirements. Please note that myhood.ca automatically searches as you change the criteria – there is no need to press a “search” button.
Q: When I click on the “Search Results” link, the Advanced Search disappears and vise versa!
A: Don’t worry, the Advanced Search was merely hidden - not erased. To "unhide", press the "Advanced Search" link. This also goes for your search results when you press the "Advanced Search" link.
Q: Please explain the pins on the map.
A: The pins on the map correspond to the search results. You can press on the listing on the left, or the pin on the map. Either way, a bubble will pop up and will give you the basic details regarding the listing or review.
Q: What are the clusters with three pins together? Are they part of the search results?
A: The three pins together, or “cluster pins”, signal that there is more than one listing or review resulting from your search in a specific small area. These specific results do not show up on the left side and consequently, to learn more about the results, press on the cluster pin of interest and click on the “Zoom in” link in the bubble and pops up. This will zoom into a level where you can view the apartments highlighted by the cluster pin..
Q: How do I minimize the number of cluster pins that show up on the map?
A: Simple. Press on the “Advanced Search” link above the Search Results and refine your search by choosing the price range, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, etc. that fit your criteria. Performing an Advanced Search will not only give you listings and reviews that are more useful to you, but will also minimize the number of clusters that appear on the map.
Q: Explain the bubble that pops up.
A: The bubble gives you the basic information regarding a listing or review including, if available, review details. When the bubble pops up, either close the bubble and continue your search, or if you’re interested in the apartment, you can view more details (only on the RENT page), read a review or write a review. Note that when you press "view details", a new window will open up of the website where the listing originated, i.e. NOW magazine.
Q: What does “% Recommended” mean?
A: “% recommended” means the percentage of the reviewers who recommend a particular building.
Q: Please explain each of the “Features” associated with the rental listings?
A: Many of the “Features” available to you as part of your Advanced Search on the RENT page are self explanatory like Air Conditioning, Furnished, Parking and Pets OK. However, the following Features may need further explanation:
A: We thought it would be helpful to display whether a rent listing has a corresponding review and accordingly, the overall rating is displayed. To read the review, press the “read review” link in the bubble.
Q: My question wasn't covered in this section. What do I do?
A: Please email us here. We’ll do our best to get back to you as soon as we can with an answer to your question/issue.
Q: I have a suggestion to improve an area of myhood.ca.
A: Great, please let us know here. Thank you in advance - we appreciate ALL feedback.
