The Beach (formerly the Beaches) is a chic neighbourhood where many of Toronto's singles and young artists live. The main street, Queen Street East, is known for its quaint and colourful restaurants and specialty shops. Perhaps the biggest drawing card, and a prime tourist destination, of the area is the boardwalk, connecting a succession of bathing beaches that are usually crammed with sun worshippers. The narrow streets that slope up from the shady boardwalk create all the soothing charm of a small town in the heart of a big, bustling city. The neighbourhood is a mixture of single and semi-detached homes, low-rise apartment buildings, and some mansions making room for all sorts of individuals who choose to live in the area.
